It was a tough weekend for the Morgan County wrestling team at the 6-AAA Area Duals hosted by Jackson County.  The team did not qualify for the State Duals to be held this weekend.  The team was obviously disappointed with the outcome.

According to Coach Carter Shultz, the Mat Dogs faced off with a senior laden Jackson County squad in the first round and never really got out of the gate losing in a not-so-close match.  The second round found Morgan taking on another solid team in Hart County.  They fell in that one 41-39 in a nail biter, but Griffin McAlister certainly did his part.  He went 2-0 for the day with a technical fall vs. Jackson County and a fall against Hart.

The Dogs will be off this weekend for the State Duals, and head to Archer the following weekend for a traditional tournament.  That will be followed up by the 6-AAA Area Traditional Tournament on January 30-February 1.

Shultz wanted to remind everyone that this year’s team is extremely young and has big things in store for the future.
