A Union Point teen charged in the killing of a 23-year-old Morgan County man, allegedly over the theft of $50, has been indicted by a Morgan County Grand Jury.
Dontarious Lamonta Burke, 17, has been indicted on one count murder, one count felony murder and one count armed robbery by the Grand Jury after it met earlier in the month.
Burke was arrested nearly a week after he allegedly shot and killed Kentrell Jones on Wednesday, Nov. 27 while Jones was standing on the street at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Morgan Circle.
Following Burke’s arrest, Madison Police Department Detective Wes Thompson said Burke told authorities that the shooting was part of a robbery attempt that netted $50.
According to court documents, arrest warrants also allege that the shooting and murder were part of a robbery of $50.
Earlier published reports state that Jones was shot three times with a 9mm pistol.
Thompson said a 15-year-old Union Point teen was also at the shooting scene and had approached Jones from the street as Burke approached from behind.
Thompson said after the shooting that authorities had secured video evidence of the shooting. “We have video of him walking up and shooting (Jones,” Thompson said.
Burke remains incarcerated in the Morgan County Detention Center.
