Point guard Taylor Wilson put on a remarkable display of basketball in a 48-35 home win over rival Hart County this week.  Her 25 points and outstanding floor play led the Lady Dogs in a win that pushed them into second place in the 8-AAA standings.  Down the stretch the senior sealed the “W” as she made good on eight out of her final ten free throws.  It was most likely her finest outing of the season and of her career.

Hart County seemed slugglish out of the gate as Morgan jumped out to an 8-3 lead before the orange and black Lady Dogs closed the gap to 8-6 after eight minutes of play.  MOCO played well in the second quarter running out to a 17-9 lead before scoring the final five points of the period.  The score at intermission was 22-9.

The second half was pretty much even with Morgan outscoring Hart by only two for the win.  The victory posts Morgan a 10-10 record on the season and a 6-3 mark in Region action.  Jefferson leads the pack at 8-0 and will be coming into Madison Jan. 21 for a showdown between the two teams.  It should make for some exciting action.  Coach Timothy Roop said, “Taylor had a great night Tuesday controlling the game and locking it up for us in the fourth knocking down a ton of free throws.  We play like that each night…..I sure wouldn’t want to be on the other bench!”

Friday the Lady Dogs grabbed another win with a 46-28 smothering of the East Jackson Lady Eagles.  This one was over pretty early as Morgan raced out to 14-3 and 27-9 advantages after the first and second quarters.  Lots of players saw action in this one.  A balanced scored attack was led by Tamia Benford’s 14 points and Miracle Hunter’s nine.  Hunter had a nice night for Coach Timothy Roop’s squad.  Others getting in the scoring column were Peyten Spain 2, Shay Brown 8, Andrea Cooper 1, Taylor Wilson 5, Neshay Cobb 2, Taylor Frederick 3, and Kourtney Elder 2.

Saturday’s outcome at Jones County wasn’t nearly what the girls expected losing to the home opponent by a large margin.  The Lady Greyhounds are currently ranked #10 on MaxPreps in AAAAA with an overall 17-3 record.

Roop commented about the week’s slate, “Defense, defense, defense!  That is our main focus.  If we can continue the efforts from the Hart game and the first half of the East Jackson game we are a tough team to handle.  We are 100% focused on what we have to do to close out the regular season and head into region playoffs.  All eyes will be on the game Tuesday vs Jefferson.

Tamia had a great week.  NeShay Cobb played a huge role.  I could go on about each girl and how vital they are.  We know we have to have every girl that steps on the floor and last week was a great display of what we are capable of doing.”

Next up for the Lady Dogs will be a road contest vs. Jackson County on the 24 and a home game on the 25 with Jones County.  Friday’s game will start at 7 p.m. and a 4 p.m. start is scheduled for Saturday’s action.
