A Watkinsville man died tragically in a single car crash on Bostwick Highway near the Nolan Store Road.

According to Sgt. Corey Seymour, Georgia State Patrol. a 1995 Mazda driven by Arthur Mann, 81, left the roadway while traveling south on Bostwick Highway towards Madison, Mann apparently overcorrected and then lost control of the vehicle.

Seymour said the Mazda left the roadway again, struck a culvert and became airborne before striking several trees.

The incident occurred on Monday, Jan. 27 at approximately 2:46 p.m.

Seymour said Trooper Nicholas Hawkins was at the crash site during the incident and observed the vehicle strike the trees. The Mazda caught fire, Seymour said, and Hawkins and Seymour both were able to pull Mann from the vehicle. The troopers provided CPR on Mann while awaiting emergency medical services, however, Mann was pronounced dead at Morgan Medical Center.

Seymour said authorities believe Mann “might of had a medical emergency that caused the wreck. That’s what we expect.”
