On the heals of current Morgan County Tax Commissioner Becky Astin’s announcement in the Morgan County Citizen two people have announced they will seek the job, both as Republican candidates.

Current Morgan County Tax Commissioner Clerk Wendy Coe, 38, and Morgan County native Sheree Evans both said Tuesday they would seek the job.

Evans, 58, has worked for Jones, Ewing, Dobbs and Tamplin Insurance for the past 36 years.

Coe said she has the backing of Astin in the race. Coe has worked at the Morgan County Tax Commissioner’s Office for the past eight years.

Evans said she has admired how Astin has operated the office and has “no qualms about how it is run.” However, she said she was confident she could learn the various duties of the commissioner and would utilize her communication skills to accommodate Morgan County residents. Evans comes from a life-long agricultural family from the Godfrey area.

“I’ve lived in Morgan County all my life and it’s been good to me and I’m ready to give something back.”

Coe said she has received hundreds of hours of training during state-mandated classes for tax commissioner workers. “I think it’s time. I know the job and I know the people. I’m ready to serve the citizens of Morgan County.”

Evans has served for eight years on the Morgan County Department of Family and Children and Services Advisory Board, is a graduate of the 2007 Leadership Morgan County Class, member of Madison Baptist Church and the Cultural Center and has been a United Way Board of Directors member.
