This column is dedicated to songs that chase the blues.
Time travelin’! Yeah! It’s 1972 and I’m sittin’ at my little desk in my childhood room with a heavy case of the ding dang blues . . . that’s ‘cause my dyslexic mind is strugglin’ with elementary school homework that I just can’t grasp! Hey but my far out, groovy yellow ball, Panasonic, panapet AM transitor radio on my desk is tuned on the dial to Huntsville’s WAAY a.m. Radio and the best song ever just starts playin! I’m talkin’ ‘bout Johnny Nash!
Ok so for all y’all facin’ a struggle, a challenge, an obstacle . . . this song has you covered! Belt it out with me now! “I can see clearly now the rain is gone. I can see all obstacles in my way. Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind . . . It’s gonna be a bright . . .bright . . .sunshiny day! I think I can make it now the pain is gone. All of the bad feelings have disappeared. Here is that rainbow I’ve been praying for . . .It’s gonna be a bring . . . bright . . .sunshiny day! Now that song can chase away the blues like nobodies business! Yes!
Ok and speakin’ of business, let’s get to it shall we! Heck yeah! Ok so last week my handsome husband treated me to a fab, soul food, delicious lunch at Madison’s new R + B Soul Café located at 461 Burney Street in Madison! What the heck, y’all! This place is soo dang great! So the food is like sunshine on a rainy day (and honey it was pouring cats and dogs when we went last week)! I’m talkin’ fried chicken, better than momma’s meatloaf, mac n’ cheese, greens, green beans, cornbread! Lord have mercy! Oh and it don’t stop there! They cook up some lip-smackin’ wings, fried fish, ribs, pork chops, Salisbury steak, bbq chicken and more! And, don’t get me started on their banana puddin’! Yum! Hey and the best part is the price: $10 for a meat and two sides, plus cornbread and a drink! Can’t. Be. Beat! But even better is that this is a family operation all the way around! In fact the restaurant is named after Regina Massey (R) and her son Barry Massey (B)! In other words, if you’re a soul food fan, this is your place! Hey and the restaurant is flat clean as a whistle too! Right, so hours are Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m. til 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 12 p.m. til 6 p.m.! Hey and did I tell y’all they also cater? Well honey they flat do! So go by and visit or give ‘em a call at 706-438-3030 or visit them on FB at R+B Café, or Instgram @eatrbcafe! Y’all check it out! You won’t be disappointed!
