Grand Jury returns criminal indictments

A Morgan County Grand Jury, last week, returned several criminal indictments during a one-day session. The following persons were indicted.

Devarski Antonio Bennett, 34, Louisville, Ga. was re-indicted on one count trafficking in methamphetamine, one count possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, one count defective equipment and two counts speeding. According to court documents, Bennett was arrested on April 19, 2019 by a Georgia State Patrol trooper for allegedly speeding on Interstate 20. Warrants allege that consequent to a traffic stop the trooper allegedly smelled both burnt and green marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search allegedly revealed approximately 400 grams of suspected methamphetamine in the center console and approximately two pounds of suspected marijuana wrapped in a towel on the back seat.

Christopher Eric Grant, 40, Savannah was re-indicted on one count trafficking in methamphetamine, one count possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and one count possession of marijuana, less than an ounce. According to court documents, Grant was arrested on April 19, 2019 by a Georgia State Patrol trooper while a passenger in a vehicle driven by Devarski Antonio Bennett (see item above). Consequent to the stop, warrants allege, Grant allegedly handed the trooper a cigarillo pack that contained a suspected marijuana cigarette which provided probable cause for a search of the vehicle, reports state.

Clifford Cole Walker, no address, no age available, was indicted on two counts of arson in the first degree and one count arson in the second degree. According to court documents, Walker was indicted for allegedly damaging a residence on Blue Springs Drive, Buckhead by fire. Indictments also allege Walker also damaged a pickup truck at the residence with fire.

Jarrett Paul Gunn, 21, Forsyth was indicted on two counts fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, one count theft by receiving stolen property, one count cruelty to children in the second degree, one count possession of methamphetamine, one count obstruction of an officer, one count driving without a license and one count speeding. According to court documents, Gunn was arrested on Oct. 11, 2019 by a Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputy after a 2.5 mile pursuit that began on Eatonton Road near Ward Road and ended at the intersection of Kolb Street and Academy Street in Madison. Gunn, warrants allege, fled on foot and after he was detained, officers located suspected methamphetamine on his person. The 2012 Toyota Camry he was driving had been reported stolen out of Jasper County the same day. Published reports stated that a woman and child were in the car during the chase.

Kevin Roger Titley, 44, Lawrenceville, was indicted on one count fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, one count reckless driving and two counts speeding. According to court documents, Titley was arrested on May 12, 2019 by a Georgia State Patrol trooper after driving more than 140 mph in a 2000 Mercedes S55 on Georgia State Route 24 and passing vehicles in no passing areas and on curves. 

Jamison Quartrelles Young, 39, Madison was indicted on one count aggravated assault, one count battery and one count simple battery. According to court documents, Young was arrested by a Morgan County Sheriff’s deputy on Dec. 11, 2019. Warrants allege that at a Bostwick Road residence Young struck a woman repeatedly and raised a machete in a threatening manner and told the woman “I don’t care about going back to jail.”

Jalen Bernard Walker, 19, Locust Grove, was indicted on one count burglary in the first degree. According to court documents, Walker was arrested by a Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Dec. 20, 2019 after he allegedly entered a Pine Tree Circle residence and removed an Xbox game controller with joy sticks and games.

Percy Frasharn Harris, 49, Madison was indicted on three counts aggravated sodomy, two counts aggravated child molestation, two counts rape, one count aggravated sexual battery and one count child molestation. According to court documents,  Harris was arrested on Dec. 16, 2019 by a Madison Police Department officer. Warrants allege that Harris molested a female child when she was between 6 and 8-years-old. 

Christopher Daniel Johnson, 21, Buckhead, was indicted on four counts aggravated child molestation and two counts sexual battery against a child under 16. According to court documents, Johnson was arrested on Sept. 12, 2019 by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Warrants allege that on several occasions Johnson alleged molested a female under the age of 16.

Dewayne Joyner, 57,Madison was indicted on three counts sexual battery against a child. According to court documents, Joyner was arrested on July 26, 2019 by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Warrants allege that on July 18, 2019 Joyner allegedly inappropriately touched and kissed a 12-year-old female.

Edward Dwayne Bell, 56, Madison was indicted on one count aggravated child molestation, three counts child molestation and three counts sexual battery against a child under 16. According to court documents,  Bell was arrested on Sept. 26, 2019 by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Warrants allege that sometime between Aug. 1, 2019 and Sept. 19, 2019 Bell molested an 11-year-old female.
