Fairplay resident Brad Hawk announced Monday that he would qualify for the District 3 Morgan County Board of Education seat. The position is currently held by Bostwick resident Keith Howard, Howard said several weeks ago he would not seek. another term.
In a prepared statement, Hawk, 39, commended Howard and his family for “their efforts in providing outstanding leadership to all families, students, teachers and staff of the Morgan County School system.
Hawk is a native Morgan County resident, a 1998 graduate of Morgan County High School and is currently a senior industrial engineer with Georgia Pacific in Madison. He obtained an industrial engineer degree from the then Southern Polytechnic State University.
“We have a great school system in Morgan County. I would consider it an honor to serve this community on your behalf to sustain the initiatives underway and move toward continued improvement within the school system.”
Hawk is married to Ashley Hawk and the couple have four children with three currently enrolled in the Morgan County Charter School System.
“As a father, I believe we have an obligation to provide a safe and secure environment for both our students and teachers. I want to help foster an atmosphere where students feel confident, supported and encouraged, therefore becoming hopeful, prosperous and good citizens.”
Hawk said he would run as a Republican.
“I believe my engineering an industrial experience offers a broader perspective that will be unique and beneficial to the school board.”
