Police charge brother in murder investigation

The 15-year-old brother of a 17-year-old murder suspect has now been arrested in connection with the killing of 23-year-old Kentrell Jones. According to an arrest warrant filed in Morgan County Superior Court, Damarcus Jermaine Burke, 15, Union Point has been arrested and charged as an adult on armed robbery.

Demarcus Burke is the brother of Dontearious Burke, the teen suspect police arrested and charged with murder and armed robbery following the Nov. 27 shooting death of Jones while Jones was leaning against a vehicle on Morgan Circle.

According to Det. Wes Thompson, authorities are alleging that the Burke brothers may have had contact with Jones prior to the shooting. “We believe he was participating in arranging a drug deal,” Thompson said of Demarcus Burke.

Thompson said officers found a small bag of suspected marijuana near Jones body during the investigation. 

Reports allege that Jones was shot three times and killed with a 9mm pistol Initial reports stated that Demarcus Burke allegedly initially approached Jones from the street and Dontearious Burke approached Jones from the rear of a Morgan Circle residence. 

Authorities allege that Jones was shot at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Thompson also said authorities retained video surveillance of the shooting. 

Initially Thompson said $50 was taken from Jones after the shooting.

Demarcus Burke remains incarcerated in a Youth Detention Center. Dontearious Burke remains incarcerated in the Morgan County Detention Center.

Dontearious Burke was arrested after the shooting by a Walton County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team at a residence in Monroe. 

Following his arrest, Thompson said at the time, Dontearious Burke allegedly confessed to shooting Jones.
