Now more than ever before we need to support our local economy! That’s means three words: Shop Small Y’all! From local banks, insurance companies and newspapers to retail shops, restaurants and hair salons! I’m talkin’ about supporting OUR small, family owned businesses – the heart of our One Morgan community!
And, speaking of small, family owned businesses, two just opened up in Downtown Madison that you need to check out immediately: Oconee Coffee Roasters and The Polished Peach!
Ok so I popped into Oconee Coffee Roasters, located at 142 Academy Street next to the entrance to Madison Markets, the other day and flat had a fit. This is truly a family owned and operated business! Owned by Wee Jin (Jin) Chiew and Jennifer Chiew of Buckhead, this new coffee shop is truly unique. Jin handles operations and Jennifer helps out with the books!
At Oconee Coffee, your not just gonna get a cup of Joe – your gonna get a specialty coffee, roasted and brewed on-site that originated from one of the small farms around the globe from which Jin sources his green coffee beans! Awesome!
Oconee Coffee’s menu is simple and fabulous: You can order a 12 ounce Pour-over with a coffee originating from countries like Peru, Columbia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Guatemala based on the season! And, y’all the Cappuccino will sure as shootin’ put pep in your step! And, you can also order an amazing Espresso, Cortado, Latte, Mocha, Iced Latte, Iced Coffee or Iced Mocha! Whoa! Oh and you can pick up a sweet scone or muffin while you’re at it!
Ok so this guy knows coffee inside out like no other! Jin has been in the coffee business for 14 years starting with Ceremony Coffee Roasters in Maryland and later in Colorado with Sweet Bloom Coffee Roasters as head roaster.
I mean he literally sources coffee from all over the world and roasts it right smack here in his store! It just doesn’t get fresher than that y’all! CHECK IT OUT! We are so lucky to have this awesome business right here in Morgan County!
The Polished Peach, owned by Rutledge resident LeAnn Miles with her family supporting her, just opened last week in downtown Madison! Located in the former Ye Ole Colonial building at 108 East Washington St. in downtown Madison, this new small business is gonna blow you away! The shop is just beautiful! Oh. My. Gosh! LeAnn has filled it some wonderful, must-have items and gifts like baby and children’s clothing by Prodoh and Southern Point, toys, baby gifts and handmade pottery created by Madison native Joe Callaway! I flat LOVE that pottery! Oh and of course LeAnn has a great selection of things for women and men!
For women, LeAnn has some fabulous dresses (one of which is comin home with me), fun tops, wraps, t-shirts and accessories! Perfect for summer! Oh and those men’s long and short sleeve t-shirts are to die for – def getting some for my two boys! Oh and LeAnn says she’s gettin’ in a line of men’s Duck Camp shorts that are going to ROCK IT! Oh and she’s soon getting a fun men’s line called Tipsy Elves that specializes in nostalgic designs! Y’all get over there and CHECK IT OUT!
Ding dang! Outta space. Outta time! Ok so you know what to do: Shop Small Y’all! It’s A BIG Deal!
