Our Stories: Hannah and Chloe’s garden

March 2020 was a crazy month when all the schools closed, but because  of it we had a lot of free time. That’s when my sister Hannah and I decided we should start a garden with the help of our parents. My sister was excited because this was her first time doing a garden, but I have had experience. I’ve had a little garden for the past few years with tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. My dad helped us mark the spot in the backyard, and once that was done we started tilling it. Next ,Hannah and I got all of the grass out of it and then it started to look like a real professional garden. A really cool thing was that before Hannah and I were born there was a house on that land, but it was torn down. Because of that when we were preparing the garden, we found things buried in the ground like a section of a garden hose or a part of a shoe. We planted corn, squash, lettuce, cucumber, potatoes, tomatoes, zucchini, cantaloupe, watermelon, and beans. We also planted a smaller garden which has banana peppers, bell peppers, cilantro, and basil. We began our plants in a little green house before planting them in the ground. It was such a great experience to watch them grow. Then finally when the day came we got to plant them in the ground. It was awesome to put them in and watch them grow. Now this garden has become the biggest garden I have ever seen. We have pretty big tomatoes, and we have so much lettuce. Our corn and squash plants are bigger than me! We weed it often and have a sprinkler system for when it doesn’t rain. We have picked lots of lettuce, and squash, and most of our corn have little ears on them, which is amazing because we love corn. In conclusion this has been a really great experience for both of us and actually this quarantine  has brought me closer to nature and the beauty of the earth. We have had so much fun working and making this garden outstanding. This is one of the funniest things Hannah and I  have done and one of the greatest things we have accomplished. P.S Thanks mom and dad ! We couldn’t  have done this without you and your support.  ( We can fight covid ) Chloe is 11 years old.
