Downtown produce shop and deli, The Madison Produce Company, is leaving its current location on Washington Street to take over the former Perk Avenue spot on the corner of West Jefferson.
What started as a simple produce stand in 2010 has become one of Madison’s most raved about restaurants 10 years later. With popularity continuing to skyrocket for the local sandwich shop, more space is a must.
“We are trying to take the next step,” said owner Andy Oller.
Oller announced a few weeks ago that the shop would be moving and renovations are currently underway to customize the building to meet the needs of the business. The new building offers a more central location as well as more square footage.
But The Madison Produce Company is not just seeking more space. Oller said customers can expect a whole new atmosphere at the new location.
“In the beginning we are going to be doing what we are doing now,” Oller said. “Eventually we’ll add breakfast and coffee, and then we’ll add burgers at night.” He also mentioned the possibility for live entertainment alongside possible specialty coffees.
While continuing to be a hot spot for lunch, Oller hopes to open up the same options for breakfast. He is currently working on a breakfast menu consisting of homemade grits and other fresh and locally-sourced options.
But Oller said these new additions won’t come immediately. “We don’t want to overwhelm ourselves,” he said. “I’m going to need a lot more people.”
With plenty of room to grow, The Madison Produce Company Deli and Provisions plans to settle into its new location this fall.
