Gerald B. Mapp, 65, departed this life on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, due to heart failure. He was the son of the late Oscar and Leona Mapp and was born October 31, 1954, in Madison. At an early age Gerald professed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and joined Calvary Baptist Church (Madison) under the leadership of Rev. B.S. Jackson. He later joined World Changers Church International (College Park) under the leadership of Rev. Creflo Dollar.
Gerald attended the Morgan County Public Schools and was a 1973 graduate of Morgan County High School. Following graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp. until 1975.
He matriculated at Athens Technical School where he studied Auto Body Repair and Welding. Gerald was employed by Horton Homes in Eatonton, where he worked for 27 years until his health began to fail in 2010.
He was united in holy matrimony to Barbara Ann Adams of Godfrey, on September 24, 2001. This union of nearly 20 years was met with many good times as they had been longtime friends since Middle School.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by two sisters; Lois and Bonnie. His life will forever be cherished in the life of his devoted wife, Barbara, son from a previous marriage; Marlown and a daughter from a previous marriage Melba (Dexter) Mapp Harris, both of Covington, of Hampton; stepsons; Keith Atwater of Hiram and Erik Evans of Rome; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren; two sisters; Lurene (Eddie) Wyatt and Beverly (Milledge) Gordon, Jr., both of Madison; two brothers; Michael and Max Mapp; both of Madison; mother-in-law Parthenia Adams of Godfrey, and one aunt Sallie Ree (Solomon) Gilbert of Madison; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service was held on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 1p.m. in the chapel of Bernard’s Family Funeral Care. Interment was held at Fairview Cemetery in Madison.
