Graveside Services were held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Lower Moses Baptist Church, in Rutledge, with Reverend Aaron Carter, Sr., as Eulogist.

Mother Ossie Lean Harris was born to the late Ned Hunt and Ossie Lene Thomas Hunt on September 9, 1925, in Jasper County.

Our Mother received her education at the Wallace Grove Baptist Church in Rutledge.  At an early age, she joined the Low Mosley Baptist Church, where she served on the usher board, motherboard, and loved to sing in the choir. She also loved to cook and feed anyone that wanted to eat. Mother is featured in the book “Working the Roots: Over 400 Years of Traditional African American Healing.”

She had three children who preceded her in death, Rosie Nell, Linton, and Felton. She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Corrine Wade, Willie Mae Griffin, Maggie Wright, Annie Wright, and Rosie Maude Smith, and two brothers, Howard Hunt and Leroy Hunt.

Early in life, she was united in matrimony to the late Fred Lee Harris. She was employed by Bibb Manufacturing Company.

Ossie was also a Household Technician and worked many other jobs.

She leaves to cherish her memories and legacy: Betty Jean Harris, Ionica Gaither, Michael Jefferson, Valenteena (Aaron) Carter, Sr.,

Carolyn (Tyrone) Gibbs, and Josie Harris, all of
Madison, 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren;
10 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; her adopted family, the Smith Family of Newborn and the Stevens Family of Monticello.
