On Nov. 7, an informational report was filed in reference to a possible deceased subject at Bohlen’s Garage on Fairground Road. According to reports, officers were alerted by an employee at a local restaurant who had become familiar with the male subject, identified as John Elder, stating he was a daily customer and she often bought meals for him due to him being homeless. She became concerned after not seeing Elder for a few days and was informed that he lived in his van on property belonging to Bohlen’s Garage. Upon driving to the area and approaching the van, she stated she could see Elder laying inside his van and called 911. Officers were cleared to force entry into the locked van and determined that Elder was deceased. Reports state there were no drugs, medications or alcohol visible and no signs of physical trauma or damage to the exterior of the van. With the absence of suspicious circumstances, officers notified the Morgan County Coroner and proceeded to contact Elder’s family members.
On Nov. 9, a theft by taking complaint was filed at Madison Rentals Inc. According to reports, a man identifying himself as Demarius Brinkley arrived in a U-Haul pickup truck on Nov. 6 and rented a Takeuchi Excavator and a trailer which was due to be returned on Nov. 9. Once contact was made with Brinkley, it was determined that a week prior, Brinkley lost his wallet in Madison which contained the drivers license that was fraudulently used to rent the equipment. The total value of stolen property is estimated at $44,950 and the investigation is on-going.
On Nov. 9, Robert Leroy Ford, 26, of Madison, was arrested for fleeing or attempting to elude, DUI first offense, failure to maintain lane and driving without a license. According to reports, officers observed a black Nissan driving erratically on N. Main St., traveling southbound. The vehicle accelerated once officers activated emergency blue lights and made an aggressive turn into the parking lot of Budget Inn. The driver continued through the parking lot at excessive speeds and then jumped out with the vehicle still in drive. Officers stated he tripped an fell as he exited the vehicle and then ran behind Budget Inn where witnesses saw him enter a room. The vehicle continued through the parking lot and came to rest against a small tree. The driver, identified as Robert Ford, was located inside the bathroom of one of the rooms at Budget Inn.
On Nov. 14, an informational report was filed at a Carriage lane residence. According to reports, the complainant stated all four tires on her car were flattened overnight. Officers did not observe any puncture marks on the tires. The complainant advised she was in the process of a divorce and had been threatened by her husband prior to discovering the damage.
