Two wrecks claim two local lives

A 63-year-old man was struck and killed while driving a Moped scooter on West Jefferson Street Tuesday, December 15 and a Bostwick man died in a two vehicle wreck Monday, December 21.

According to Georgia State Patrol reports, Ben Cain was pronounced dead at Morgan Medical Center at approximately 6:30 p.m. following the incident. Reports state that Cain was driving a Moped east on West Jefferson Street at approximately 6 p.m. when a 2004 Ford Super Duty truck driven by Robert Zachary Greer, 18, Monroe pulled onto West Jefferson Street from the EZ Bottle Shop parking lot and struck the right side of the Moped.

Georgia State Patrol reports state that Greer and a passenger in Greer’s truck told a trooper that the truck had come to a complete stop before pulling onto East Jefferson Street. Greer and the passenger told the trooper that they did not see a headlight on the Moped at the time of the incident.

No charges have been filed in the incident, however, the Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the incident and have conducted a Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team investigation.

On Monday Bostwick’s William Allen Cagle, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene of a two vehicle crash on High Shoals Road. According to Georgia State Patrol reports, Cagle was driving a pickup truck at approximately 3:41 p.m. south on High Shoals Road when a second vehicle approached driving north and crossed over the center line and the two vehicles collided.

According to Morgan County Fire and Rescue, a second person in the incident was trapped and had to be extricated before being flown via helicopter to a trauma center in Atlanta.

The crash remained under investigation as of press time on Tuesday, December 22.
