Joan Williams Chestnut, age 85, of Madison, Georgia died Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Madison Health and Rehab in Madison, Georgia.  Joan was born August 24, 1935 in Willows, California, one of two children of the late Clark Williams and Mary Strait Williams.  She grew up in La Jolla, California. Joan earned a Bachelor’s degree from San Diego State with highest honors where she was the valedictorian and a cheerleader. She was also listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges & Universities.  She was a Graphic Design Artist for McGraw Hill and illustrated Rocket Designs for Wernher von Braun who was a German-born American aerospace engineer and space architect.  For many years Joan was the in-house art restorer for Vintage Bank Antiques in Petaluma, California. She enjoyed oil painting restoration, antiquing and working in her own design business (Joan Chestnut Designs) in San Francisco. Joan and Tice also enjoyed working in their art and antiques gallery (Clark/Chestnut Gallery) in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

In 2015 Joan moved from Sonoma, California to Madison, Georgia. While living in Madison, she attended the Episcopal Church of the Advent.

Joan was predeceased by her father, Clark Williams who was mayor of Pacific Beach, California and an undefeated prize fighter c.o. Los Angeles Athletic Club; her mother, Mary Williams and her brother.  She is survived by her husband of twenty years, Henry Tice Clark of Madison, Georgia and a number of friends.
