The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Monday issued a murder and aggravated assault warrant against 40-year-old Adrian Weston in the shooting death of Alex Bernard “Moo-moo” Tolbert, 33. Tolbert was shot and killed while inside a Budget Inn Motel room on Saturday, Jan. 23. According to Sgt. Wes Thompson, Madison Police Department, Tolbert was shot 14 times with a .22 caliber weapon.

In May 2019, Tolbert was arrested and charged with aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing Weston. In a story published in the Morgan County Citizen, reports state at the time Weston allegedly urinated in front of Tolbert’s girlfriend at the Sunflower Convenience Store. Tolbert confronted Weston, the story said, and Weston allegedly told Tolbert “I don’t fight, I shoot.”

Tolbert allegedly replied to the man that “it wasn’t that serious… let it go.”

Tolbert was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting. The May arrest had not been adjudicated in court, Thompson said.

Thompson said investigators with the Madison Police Department, GBI and Morgan County Sheriff’s Office had been working through multiple leads to connect Weston to the shooting. He said authorities had been conducting multiple interviews and had been “knocking on doors.”

Monday’s warrant came after authorities verified information Thompson said he could not discuss because of the nature of the investigation.

Morgan County Sheriff Robert Markley said his office was given the warrant on Monday and immediately began searching for Weston.

“We’ve been knocking on doors, trying to gain information from family and friends of the individual (Weston),” he said.

Markley added the U.S. Marshall’s Fugitive Squad is also involved in the search for Weston. Weston’s last known address was a Saffold Road, Buckhead, residence but Markley said Weston is known to stay with friends and family regularly.

Both the Madison Police Department and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office is offering a reward for information leading to the direct arrest of Weston.
