Two house fires light up Morgan

Two fires raged in Morgan County just a couple of days before the New Year. On Saturday, Dec. 30, a single-family house on Brobston Lane went up in flames. The family was not home at the time of the fire, but the family’s pet pit bull was killed in the fire. “It was a sweet pit bull,” said Fire Chief Jeff Stone. Rutledge youth charged with armed robbery

A 22-year-old Rutledge youth has been charged with armed robbery after he allegedly pointed a pistol at a Hollis St. residence and demanded money. According to Morgan County Sheriff’s Office reports, Stanley Deneen Harris turned himself in to authorities at the Morgan County Public Safety Complex, Monticello Road, on Dec. 23, one day after he allegedly took $2,000 at gunpoint from a 29–year–old Rutledge man. On Dec. 31 a burglary and theft by taking complaint was filed at Budget Inn, Eatonton Road. According to reports, an employee reported that someone entered a vacant room and removed a 27” Vizio flat screen television set. The television is valued at $230. No signs of forced entry were present but sheets on the bed in the room were in disarray, reports state. On Dec. 30 six different people reported that their vehicles had been struck by eggs.
