On Oct. 13 Joseph Conrad Christian, 27, Covington was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. According to reports, a deputy was called to a Cleveland Avenue, Buckhead regarding Christian allegedly in a fight with another man. When the deputy arrived he spoke with a man who said he did not want to press charges or report the fight to police. Mad Town Festival gets shut down

An annual festival running for the last three years in Gilbert Park is getting the axed, according to City of Madison officials. The event, formerly known as Mad Town, has been held every Fall for the last three years in Gilbert Park, drawing hundreds of attendees for a family-friendly neighborhood festival. A joint operation between the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Georgia Bureau of investigation (GBI) led to the arrest of a Rutledge man on several child exploitation charges, including the distribution of child pornography. According to Sgt. Brandon Sellers, Investigations Division, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, officers with the three law enforcement branches executed a GBI search warrant on the Dickson Road residence of John McLeod, 49, Rutledge. Board approves $10 million bond issue for school construction

A bond sale creating more than $10 million worth of revenue to help pay for new school construction sold out in one day, the Morgan County Board of Education was told on Wednesday, Oct. 2. According to Bryce Holcomb, Jr. director, public finance department, Citigroup, the sale of municipal bonds “went so well we had three to four times the orders that we had bonds to sell,” he told the board. On Oct. 7 Justin Markel Tucker, 26, Atlanta, was arrested and charged with speeding and an outstanding warrant for credit card fraud out of Carroll County. According to reports, a deputy said at 7:15 a.m. on Rutledge Highway near the Graham Ridge subdivision he observed Tucker driving a vehicle approximately 85 mph in a 55 mph zone. Drivers may soon need to pump their breaks on revving engines in the city of Madison if a new noise ordinance is passed. The city of Madison is considering a new noise ordinance aiming to crack down on loud mufflers disrupting quiet neighborhoods. A Madison man was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault after he allegedly fired at least two shots from a Smith and Wesson M&P 9 at a vehicle driving away from a reported altercation at Rutledge Wings, Atlanta Highway, Rutledge. According to Morgan County Sheriff’s Office reports, Steven Perry Day, 46, was arrested after the Saturday, Sept. 15 incident in the parking lot of the Rutledge restaurant. A Morgan County couple originally indicted in December, 2017 on cruelty to children charges in relation, in part, to head injuries sustained on their then 9-week-old son on July 1, 2017 has been re-indicted by a Morgan County Grand Jury. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office successfully claimed a 50 percent stake in more than $100,000 worth of items and cash seized by law enforcement officials during the execution of search warrant on the Hestertown Road residence of Clinton Thomas on May 31, 2018. The search warrant, according to court documents produced a host of items allegedly associated with the sale of narcotics including guns, marijuana, THC edibles, LSD, mushrooms and more than $97,000 in cash and coins. Work begins on new HS entrance

Employees with Madison-based East Coast Grading on Monday began the process of clearing land off the Madison by-pass that will create a third entrance to the new Morgan County High School. According to Dr. James Woodard, the $800,000 project commenced after the Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) granted permission  to the school to create a deceleration and acceleration lane off the by-pass. A Morgan County Grand Jury last week returned several indictments against persons charged with crimes. The following persons were indicted. • Fredrick Mickens, 55, Hephzibah, was indicted on two counts of robbery. According to court documents, Mickens was arrested on June 4, 2018 by the Madison Police Department after he allegedly entered the Pilot Truck Stop, Eatonton Road, at 4:40 a.m. and threatened to cut a clerk’s neck open with a knife. On Sept. 10 a lost handgun report was field at Hickory Point Drive, Buckhead. According to reports, a woman said she placed her .38 caliber revolver on the hood of her vehicle to unlock a door. On Sept. 10 Leonard Lee Davis, 35, Madison was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. According to reports, officers were called to a Micha Way residence after a woman alleged that Davis had been drinking and had become verbally abusive to both her and her teenage son.
