Seizure Cash Pays for New Pistols

By Patrick Yost, Editor Drug forfeitures and seizures are paying for the purchase of new pistols for deputies with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. According to Chief Deputy Keith Howard, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office has purchased 44 new pistols that are all 9mm caliber Glock weapons. The $27,000 purchase, he said, is a “transition to modernize our weapon.” Currently, deputies carry two primary duty weapons, a .40 caliber Glock and a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver. Those weapons allow for 51 total shots but also utilize different ammunition.  …

Week of November 28 On Nov. 23 a theft by taking complaint was filed at a Mission Road residence. According to reports, a man said someone entered his property and took a blue Yamaha 450 motorcycle valued at $7,000 and a green Kawasaki 450 motorcycle valued at $3,500. The man also advised deputies that he had received information that someone had observed an associate of the complainant driving towards Rutledge in a pickup truck that contained two motorcycles. Week of November 28 On Nov. 24 a burglary complaint was filed at Old South Wine and Spirit, Eatonton Road. According to reports, officers responded to a burglary alarm at midnight and observed that a hole had been punched out in the rear of the business that allowed access to a cooler at the business. Attempts to access an ATM machine in the business failed and, reports state, nothing appeared to be missing. On Nov. 17 a criminal trespass complaint was filed at a Mallory Road location. According to reports, a caretaker for a piece of property reported that someone had placed hunting stands on a fence line of the property and had damaged the barbed wire fence protecting the property and containing its livestock. A deputy noted that the stands were placed in such a manner as to hunt the complainant’s property including cutting shooting lanes towards the property. On Nov. 13 a burglary complaint was filed at a Wellington Street residence. According to reports, a man said that someone had entered his residence and taken more than $10,000 in cash and items. Reports state that the man alleged that sometime between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. someone entered the residence and took $9,700 in cash, including $700 in coins. On Nov. 10 a theft by taking complaint was filed at the intersection of Pinetree Circle and Bethany Road. According to reports, a woman alleged that after she gave her 14-year-old son $50 to go to the store, another juvenile took the money as the teen was walking to the store and pushed the woman’s son to the ground. On Nov. 7 Demarcus Treyvone Peek, 25, Madison was arrested and charged with criminal trespass. According to reports, an officer was dispatched to the Budget Inn, Eatonton Road, regarding a man staying in a room without paying. Reports state that the officer met with a Budget Inn employee who gained access to room 115 and found Peek and a woman in the room. On Oct. 29 a gunfire ordinance violation complaint was filed at a Micha Way residence. According to reports, an officer responded within a minute to an anonymous caller reporting hearing four or five gun shots. When the officer arrived at 10:15 p.m. he conducted a foot patrol. On Oct. 13 a dog bit complaint was filed at a Prospect Road residence. According to reports, a deputy reported he went to the Prospect Road residence in regard to a threat complaint. The deputy said while he was speaking with the property owner, the owner’s Blue Healer dog lunged from the porch and attacked the deputy. On Oct. 6 Christian Malebranche, 29, Smyrna was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, less than an ounce, open container and tail light requirements.
