Our Family Ties group of about 30 enjoyed a wonderful Valentine’s Day meal and program prepared by the Apalachee Baptist Church on Monday, February 8th. After a delicious home-cooked meal and a variety of desserts, the group then enjoyed singing and encouraging words from the church’s pastor, Alan Cagle. Each family then received a basket full of paper products donated by various church members, while the children all got boxes of chocolate hearts. It was a wonderful evening. The Morgan County Senior Center bids farewell to Benita Watkins. The Morgan County Senior Center Members, Advisory Council, Friends and Staff bid farewell to Benita Watkins on December 11, 2015 after eight selfless years giving back to her community. Mrs. Watkins served as the Director of both the Morgan County Senior Center and Morgan County Transit. She is a roll-up your sleeve kind of person where no job or task was ever too hard. Morgan County Seniors started celebrating Christmas early by enjoying fellowship with one another at the Senior Center on December 23, 2015. They all enjoyed a home cooked meal followed by a variety of desserts provided by the Masonic Lodge. Santa then came to visit handing each one a special present and having their pictures made. ROTC provided fruit baskets for home delivery meals and goodie bags for those who have their meals onsite. Each one had a fun and joyous time! The Senior Center also took time to celebrate the …

A huge “Thank You” to those who purchased raffle tickets for a chance to win one of our large lighted Christmas trees.  Although our friend and participant, Lorraine Duncan, sold over 300 tickets, the winning ticket was processed by Betty Allen, who put her son, James’ name on the ticket, and that ticket was pulled on the random draw.  Congratulations to Mr. Allen, who received the tree valued at $85.00.  We are also so very appreciative of the good crowd that turned out for our annual craft sale on Saturday, …

We celebrated Thanksgiving a little early on Friday the 13th so that we could begin to prepare for our largest fund raiser of the year.  We had a very nice crowd of almost 100 come and join us for traditional turkey and dressing, and the fixin’s.  There was a buffet of other selections brought by our participants, and the dessert table lacked nothing.  Thanks to our honored guests that shared with us from the Board of Commissioners and our Advisory Council for the Senior Center.  Everyone left full, and are …

Monday, October 12th, was our monthly Family Ties/Kinship Care meeting.  We were fortunate to be able to have the Morgan County Extension service come and showcase their opportunities for our young people.  Local 4-H member, Will Woodard, presented to the group the many advantages of membership in 4-H.  Several of the Family Ties care receivers expressed interest in joining the local club.  If you or someone you know are providing care for a relative child, Family Ties is a support group that needs your participation.  We have monthly supper meetings, …
