Drive-by shooting causes damage to residents’ vehicles

By Quinn Rafferty, Staff Writer A drive-by shooting in Rutledge on Dec. 30 resulted in damage to two vehicles with no injuries. The shooting took place on Newborn Road around 11 p.m. Suspects in the shooting have not been identified. According to Lt. Brandon Sellers, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, investigators have collected and are observing surveillance camera footage from businesses near the shooting to attempt to identify the suspect or suspects. On Dec. 29 a recovered auto report was field at an Atlanta Highway location. According to reports, a man who purchased property at the location in July reported that he recently located a stripped down Toyota Camry or Corolla on the property. Reports state that vehicle has no doors, center console, radio or other interior parts. Vehicle identification numbers had been scratched out or removed. On Dec. 15 a burglar complaint was filed at a Beaverdam Road residence. According to reports, a man told a deputy that someone had entered his property and broken several windows and doors along with glass cups and bowls, a heater, children’s toys, a radio a DVD player, a door frame and a pipe to a wood burning stove. On Nov. 30 a theft by taking complaint was filed at a Davis Academy Road, Rutledge residence. According to reports, a man said that someone had taken his white 1993 Ford Ranger, a red and black go-cart and a set of four 17” wheels. The man said he was in the process of moving and had not been on the property for the past two weeks. The items are all valued at $850. By Patrick Yost, Editor Police attempting to execute an arrest warrant on a Centennial Road resident ended up adding drug charges to both the suspect and a woman at the residence. According to Morgan County Sheriff’s Office reports, Avery Lee Long, 28, Rutledge and Brittany McCoy, 31, Rutledge were both arrested at 9 a.m. on drug charges after officers serving the arrest warrant also performed a Fourth Amendment search on Long’s residence, a camper trailer parked behind a residence off Centennial Road.
